Introduction
Welcome to the Overcast Media Help center! This section contains useful information about Overcasting, the Overcast software and our beta program. Be sure to review the introductory material in our discover overcasting overviews.
If you can't find the answer you are looking for, consider reviewing or posting to our community forum. For additional help or to report problems with the beta, you can email support@overcastmedia.com
What is Overcasting?
Overcasting allows anyone to create and share DVD-style audio commentary and bonus material for television shows and movies. Overcasts are created on top of video that you already own. When you publish an Overcast, we only distribute your content, not the underlying video. Our software allows other users to enjoy your creation together with their own copy of the same video.
What can Overcasts be used for?
We know Overcasting is great for producing dvd-style commentary, funny MST3K-style parodies, educational experiences, and social interaction.
For more examples and ideas, click here. We also know that Overcasting is going to be great for things we can't envision today… things you are going to create and share with the world…
Is Overcasting free?
Yes. All you have to do is download the Overcast Software Pack and you're on your way.
What does the Overcasting software do for me?
With the exciting and rapid evolution of digital video, television shows and movies now reach us in a wide variety of digital formats. For example, one person might have a DVD with the pilot episode of Lost, while another person might record that same episode using their PC. These two people have two digital copies of the same show in different file formats at different resolutions. One has commercials while the other is commercial free.

With our patent pending software, one individual could create an Overcast using the Lost DVD and another person could play that Overcast synchronized with the version of Lost recorded on their PC. Pretty cool, right?
