What is an Overcast?
An Overcast is a single media file created with the intent to be played back and synchronized with a specific video.

Who can create Overcasts?
Anyone! Overcasts can be created, shared and published by professionals and consumers.
How do I create an Overcast?
The Overcast Studio is a simple media editing tool that is used to create Overcasts. If you have a PC, a microphone, the Overcast Studio and video, then you have everything you need to get started.
How can I share my Overcast?
We make it easy to publish Overcasts to overcastmedia.com and share them with your friends.
Do Overcasts contain the TV or movie video file?
No. Overcast files contain only the material (audio, text, links, etc.) that the Overcast author has created. Overcast viewers are responsible for acquiring the video for an Overcast through download services, digital PVRs, etc.

What are the system requirements?
The Overcast software has the following hardware and software requirements.
- Windows XP SP2 and Vista
- 1.5-gigahertz (GHz) processor or faster, at least 512MB of memory, a DirectX 9.0 compliant Video (64 MB Memory) and Sound Card.
- 4MB Hard drive space for software installation
- DirectShow-compatible media player software (e.g. Windows Media Player)
How do I get the Overcast software?
You can click the "download" link at the top of your screen or click here. From the download page, select the "Free Download" button and then click "Run" to run our installation program.
Should I uninstall the Overcast Software Pack before installing a newer version?
Yes. We recommend using Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the Overcast Software Pack before installing a newer version. The Overcast Software will let you know when future versions are available.
What, no Mac support?
We love the Mac and did our earliest development work looking at Apple services. Sadly, it was cheaper and quicker for us to develop for Windows first.

Where can I get video to use with Overcasts?
There are many options available on the market today. Overcast Media recommends
Amazon Unbox,
Windows Media Center,
DivX Stage 6,
and the TiVO Series 2 PVR. If you're considering a video source not mentioned above, look at the supported video formats list to determine if your favorite video source will work.
What video formats are supported?
Overcasting currently works with DVR-MS, MPEG2, WMV, WMV9 adv. Profile, DivX and Xvid.
What media codecs are supported?
We're currently testing with the following popular codecs: Intervideo, Cyberlink, nVidia, Sonic Cineplayer, Nero, DiVX, AC3 (audio). We recommend that you always upgrade your codecs to the latest versions from their providers.

Can I create an Overcast?
Yes you can! Anyone can! All you have to do is open the Overcast Studio and select your video to get going.

I'm already producing a podcast for a tv show, why create an Overcast?
If your audience wants to listen to your podcast while watching the show, they'll *luv* the Overcast version. Overcasts always play in sync
and offer cool features like text clips and web-links.
With Overcasting, you can use one tool to create both an Overcast and an mp3 file you can use for your Podcast. Your users will get a good podcasting experience and a GREAT experience with Overcasting.
Can I use Overcasts with video on a DVD?
Our DVD support is still in an early stage of development. Yes, you can create Overcasts with DVDs, but do so at your own risk. It’s going to get better, we promise :).

Nope.
